The 2011 FPA Fall Executive Conference will feature speakers Marvin Zonis,
L. Jon Wertheim, and editor, columnist and respected authority on U.S. elections and political trends, Charlie Cook.

    Charlie Cook will share his insights on The Current Political and Legislative Environment. Using poll numbers, economic indicators, and historical data, Mr. Cook discusses today’s political and legislative environments in a balanced, non-partisan way. Mr. Cook. is the editor and publisher of The Cook Political Report and a political analyst for the National Journal Group and NBC News.
       

Marvin Zonis is a leading expert and consultant on the global political economy and political risk. Using real world examples, Mr. Zonis provides insight into global developments and trends, explaining the rapidly shifting social, political and economic environments and their implications for business and public policy.

       
    Jon Wertheim will discuss Business Lessons from the Multi-Billion Dollar Sports World that offer business leaders a unique window into broader economic behavior. Addressing insights from his New York Times Bestseller Scorecasting, Mr. Wertheim explains how the decisions made in the high stakes world of sports can be applied in the business world.

 The Conference agenda will include a review of research results on:

  • Growth Opportunities for Flexible Packaging. Jeff Bornstein, Vice President of SAI Industrial LLC will discuss the results of this important industry research. FPA commissioned SAI Industrial LLC to conduct this study that will identify top trends, opportunities and barriers to flexible packaging growth, and define issues and opportunities for conversion from other packaging formats to flexible packaging.     

Conference attendees will also hear from:

  • Richard Weil, Director, Investment Banking; and, Louis Mitchell, Managing Director, Investment Banking, of Mesirow Financial, who will discuss the Packaging Industry: M&A Perspectives. Mr. Weil has more than 10 years of investment banking experience and has advised on more than 50 merger and acquisitions in a variety of industries including manufacturing, distribution, paper and packaging and business services. Mr. Mitchell has more than 15 years of experience in mergers and acquisitions in the paper and plastic packaging sections, and has advised on more than 20 flexible packaging transactions.

  • Dorothy Coleman, Vice President, Tax and Domestic Economic Policy at the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), who will discuss Addressing Our Nation's Fiscal Challenges: What It Means for Manufacturers. Ms. Coleman is responsible for providing NAM members with important information related to tax issues and representing NAM’s position to Congress, the Administration, and the media.

  • Joseph Levitt, Partner, Hogan Lovells, will examine the Applicability of Food Safety Modernization Act on Packaging Manufacturers. Mr. Levitt is a 25-year veteran of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. he focuses on the developemt and implementation of legislative and regulatory policy regarding the manufacture and marketing of food, drugs, and medical devices, and how to work effectively with the FDA and related agencies.

  • Nick Vafiadis, Business Director of Polyolefins & PVC at CMAI, who will provide an Update on Flexible Packaging Materials. Mr. Vafiadis manages the North American polyethylene market intelligence studies for CMAI, and produces the FPA/CMAI Bi-Annual Polyolefins Market Report, which is prepared exclusively for FPA.

On Tuesday, October 4, 2011, please join FPA members and guests for the 2011 FEC Welcome Reception from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. On Wednesday, October 5, 2011, conference registration and breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. Morning presentations will begin at 8:00 a.m. followed by the FEC Networking Luncheon at 11:45 a.m. Afternoon presentations will conclude at 4:45 p.m. and will be followed by the FEC Evening Reception at 5:00 p.m.
