Mr. Thibeault's presentation to representatives of the European and international trade press marks an important step in the growing recognition which the Flexible Packaging Achievement Awards program is experiencing. Approximately 60 trade press members representing a broad spectrum of customer sectors including the confectionery industry, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and technical consumer goods manufacturing received FPA's Flexible Packaging Achievement Awards media kits.

The Achievement Awards presentation was held in conjunction with the announcement of the FEDES Star Award winners, which are awarded for outstanding flexible packaging in Europe.

Interpack, the 16th International Fair for Packaging Machinery, Packaging, and Confectionery Machinery, was held from April 24 through April 30, 2002. A total of 2,500 companies from around the world exhibited at the show. It is estimated that the show attracted nearly 150,000 visitors.

FPA's presentation at Interpack follows the official announcement of the Flexible Packaging Achievement Award winners, which took place at FPA's Annual Meeting on March 1, 2002 in Palm Springs, California. Details and deadlines for the upcoming 2002 Flexible Packaging Achievement Awards competition will be available in June.

The Flexible Packaging Association has served as the voice of the flexible packaging industry since the Association was established in 1950. Its members convert or supply the raw materials used to produce bags, pouches, labels, liners, wraps, rollstock, and other flexible products. Produced from paper, plastic film, aluminum foil, or any combination of those materials, flexible packaging is now the second largest segment of the U.S. packaging market. The $19 billion industry serves a multitude of end use markets including food, pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, household goods, personal care products, pet food, lawn and garden supplies, and industrial applications.
