FPA'S Fall Executive Conference Focuses on Successful Collaborations

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LINTHICUM, MD, July 11, 2001 - The Flexible Packaging Association (FPA) will hold its Fall Executive Conference, "Collaborating for Success … the process of bringing innovation to market" on Wednesday, October 17, 2001 at the Hotel Inter-Continental Chicago. The FPA Conference is being held in collaboration with the American Meat Institute and the International Dairy Food Association, sponsors of the Worldwide Food Expo, in order to bring flexible packaging professionals together in Chicago. The Worldwide Food Expo will begin on October 18th at Chicago's McCormick Place.

Open to all flexible packaging professionals, FPA's Fall Executive Conference will feature a panel of industry leaders, including Sealed Air Corporation Cryovac Division's Karl Deily and Pilgrim's Pride Vice President of Marketing Dan Emery, whose collaborative efforts have resulted in breakthrough packaging solutions. Attendees will learn how successful collaborations begin, what each partner expects of the other, and the steps involved in getting innovation to market. The panel will also examine the factors that can drive collaboration apart and provide strategies for countering these obstacles.

Additionally, FPA has lined up several dynamic presentations regarding the various innovations taking place in the flexible packaging industry. Bob Esse, of Esse Technologies Incorporated, will explain the intricacies of today's flexible packaging markets and the industry's most promising growth markets. Dennis Calamusa of PPi/PROFILE Packaging, Inc. will outline how traditional converting operations can incorporate packaging advancements such as closures, spouts, and fitments through contract packagers and "first-step" packaging machinery solutions. Joe Dollens of Dollens & Associates will offer an exciting look at global flexible packaging trends and dynamics, and Ed Donahue of Donahue-Corry Associates will examine the breakthroughs taking place in flexible packaging materials.

Continuing in the spirit of collaboration, several of FPA's associate members will sponsor the FEC's continental breakfast, luncheon, cocktail reception and member/guest dinner. Sponsors include the Bobst Group, DuPont Company, Flint Ink Corporation, Pliant Corporation, and Rohm and Haas Corporation.

Produced from paper, plastic film, aluminum foil, or any combination of those materials, flexible packaging is now the second largest segment of the U.S. packaging market. The $19 billion industry serves a multitude of end use markets including food, pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, household goods, personal care products, pet food, lawn and garden supplies, and industrial applications.
