The Regulatory & Government Relations Committee of the Flexible Packaging Association (FPA) takes a pro-active role in regulatory development. The committee assists government agencies in the development of reasonable and appropriate regulations that result in measurable and equitable environmental, health, and safety protection.

The Regulatory & Government Relations Committee strives to educate these regulatory agencies on the products and processes used by the flexible packaging industry. Issues that the Committee are monitoring include: 

  • The Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) development of the Paper & Other Web Coating National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP)
  • Implementation of the Printing NESHAP
  • New Source Review (NSR) reform
  • The P4 Project (Pollution Prevention Permitting Project)
Services
  • Submitting industry-specific comments on all pertinent regulatory activities.
  • Seeking out opportunities for members and staff to meet face-to-face with agency personnel on regulatory issues.
  • Creating seminars, roundtables, and other media to facilitate the exchange of information between the agency and FPA members.
  • Participating in agency-sponsored efforts dealing with applicable regulatory issues.
  • Assisting in the development of effective and reasonable demonstration requirements such as monitoring, record keeping, reporting, and testing.
  • Serving as a focal point for communication between industry and regulatory agencies.
  • Developing informational programs relative to the technologies used in the flexible packaging industry.
  • Keeping abreast of regulatory requirements of converted products and providing technical support for FPA on these regulatory requirements.

Providing a forum for operational and technical issues.
