Sterilization Packaging Manufacturers Council

Focused on the Safety of Flexible Sterilization Packaging

Development of Standards and Guidelines

The Sterilization Packaging Manufacturers Council (SPMC) was formed in June 1994 as a council of FPA. SPMC's member companies are FPA members that specialize in packaging for the medical device industry.

SPMC focuses on the unique requirements and standards for sterilization packaging. Their guidance provides consistency to the development of sterilizable flexible packaging; improves understanding throughout the packaging supply chain; and ensures the quality and safety of flexible sterilization packaging. Some of SPMC's work is referenced by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has been incorporated into ASTM standards, which the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has accepted as Consensus Standards.
