Hefty ReNew Program to be Discontinued
Reynolds Consumer Products recently announced plans to phase out its Hefty ReNew program more than a decade after its introduction. The program will run through June 30, 2027. According to the company, which includes Hefty as one of its brands, the program has provided a pathway for participating communities and residents to dispose of hard-to-recycle plastics that otherwise could end up in landfills. With their distinctive bright orange color, ReNew bags can be used by consumers for a variety of kitchen and pantry items such as candy wrappers and cereal box liners; storage and cleaning products such as disposable cleaning cloths and plastic grocery bags; office and shipping supplies such as bubble wrap and foam peanuts; and dining products such as foam cups and boxes and plastic utensils. “The program was designed to collect a broad assortment of materials and connect them with qualified downstream partners capable of managing those materials through available end market pathways,” Reynolds says in a statement announcing the phaseout.
