‘One Hasn’t Got Time for the Waiting Game’

As we enter September and focus on technological advances in this edition of FlexPack VOICE®, I was reminded of “September Song” and its lyrics.  While it is known that President John F. Kennedy’s most favorite song was the title track from the Broadway musical Camelot, “September Song” was considered one of his favorite popular songs. He frequently requested it and even sang it at parties. There have been many recordings of “September Song” made over the years, including by Frank Sinatra. Willie Nelson’s stripped-down recording on his 1978 Stardust album is considered one of the most definitive versions; interestingly, it was recorded in the living room of fellow singer-songwriter Emmylou Harris. What does this have to do with technological advances? Think of the lyric, “One hasn’t got time for the waiting game.” In our industry, I believe those who wait to adopt technological advances may be left behind, whereas those who seize the moment to innovate will advance it and, like Nelson and Sinatra, make a lasting impression and be remembered.
