Taking Film Recycling to a New Level
In Connersville, Indiana, the SYNDIGO1 polyethylene (PE) recycling facility has made higher performance film-to-film recycling a reality. NOVA Chemicals, Inc., now part of the newly formed global polyolefins company Borouge International, set out to expand access to high-quality recycled polyethylene (rPE) produced with mechanical recycling technologies. The project began in 2023. The facility is specifically designed to process plastic films collected from retail drop-off programs and back-of-house retailer and distribution center sources, which many materials recovery facilities (MRFs) cannot sort without specialized equipment. Operations began in 2025, and production continues to ramp up in 2026 as the facility commercializes new grades of rPE under the SYNDIGO™ recycled resin brand and expands its network of retail and distribution center partners.
